On Thursday November 23, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results.

A total of 1,406,559 candidates participated in the KCPE 2023 exams, while approximately 1.2 million took the KPSEA exams (Grade 6) from October 30 to November 1. This period marked the conclusion of the 8-4-4 education system in primary schools.

A total of 8,523 candidates achieved scores exceeding 400 marks, while 352,782 candidates fell within the score range of 300 to 399 marks. The largest group, consisting of 658,278 candidates, obtained scores ranging from 200 to 299. Additionally, 382,025 candidates scored between 100 and 199 marks. The number of candidates who scored less than 99 marks amounted to 2,060.

9,354 candidates did not take the examination, but they were provided with the chance to complete the exam in January.

How Candidates Performed

CS Machogu, speaking at the new Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters in South B, Nairobi, emphasized that female candidates outperformed their male counterparts in English, Kiswahili, and Kenya Sign Language. In contrast, male candidates displayed a slight edge over their female peers in Mathematics and Science.

  • Send an SMS with your index number followed by the word “KCPE” to the code 40054.

For example, if the candidate’s index number is 08220111, they should send: 08220111KCPE to 40054. Each SMS sent for result checking will be charged at Ksh 25.
